Pieces of String too Short to Save, 1998
This exhibition consists of 12 industrial metal wire mesh "cages", each measuring 2' deep, 6' high, and 5' wide. They may be installed site specific, or as a single piece. |

In 1993, Donald Lipski was asked to make an installation in the lobby of the Brooklyn Museum. At that same time Donald had to move out of his Brooklyn studio. So the artist decided to use all the unused materials that he collection over the years, or materials remaining from completed works, and create an installation in the Brooklyn Museum lobby and title the piece Pieces of String too Short to Save. |

At the close of the Brooklyn Museum exhibition, Donald had no place to store these materials. He called Carl Solway, asking to store them at the Solway Gallery's 40,000 sq.ft. warehouse building promising to make a new work of art with these materials. After 5 years, the artist decided to pack the materials in as many "cages" as required, calling this new project by the same name, Pieces of String too Short to Save. |
